Implementing Transcoding
ZGuides to implementing transcoding, whether on sources or inputs or channels or adaptive groups, or creating reusable transcoding profiles or templates, are found in the ZEN Coder and Broadcaster documents. Here we provide a map of the implementation guides.
Installation
Transcoding, regardless of whether you are using a hardware trancoder or using Zixi's software encoder, goes on the server where the Broadcaster is installed.
For detailed installation instructions, see Zixi Transcoder - Installation Guide.
ZEN Master
Sources
Adding a Source – Transcoded - You can create a transcoded Source based on an existing Source. The transcoding parameters are set by selecting one of the pre-configured transcoding profiles.
Channels
Adding Transcoded Channels - Transcoded channels transcode a single source into multiple bitrates for output to an HTTP or S3 target.
Transcoding Profiles
Transcoding Profiles - Transcoding profiles are configuration settings for the transcoding of streams. They are used in the configuration of Transcoded Channels. ZEN Master supports H.264 (AVC) and H.265 (HEVC) transcoding formats.
Broadcaster
Inputs
Transcoding Broadcaster Input Streams - Zixi Broadcaster offers live transcoding, enabling users to create multiple bitrate streams from a single input stream.
Transcoding Profiles and Templates
Creating New Transcoding Profiles - In order for the Broadcaster to switch from one encoding to another, different transcoding profiles must be configured first. These transcoding profiles include the transcoding settings that can be used for the transcoding of streams.
Transcoding Broadcaster Templates - Instead of manually selecting input streams to be transcoded, you can define templates with rules for automatic transcoding of input streams according to the settings of a pre-defined Transcoding Template. Every time a new input stream, which matches the conditions of the template, is added, it will be automatically transcoded into the transcoded streams defined in the template's settings.
