Collecting logs for Zixi Support
0 min
Follow these steps when Support asks for logs. They take about five minutes and need no restart.
- Create a logs folder inside the Broadcaster's files folder: <install directory>/files/logs. On Linux, find the install directory with grep PROGPATH= /etc/init.d/zixibc. On Windows the default is C:\Program Files\Zixi\Broadcaster.
- Set up logging. In the Broadcaster web interface, go to Settings, Logging. Set Path to the logs folder, General Level to Warning (or the level Support asks for), Max log files to 10 and Max log file size to 1024. Click Apply. Streams are not interrupted.
- Wait for the problem to happen again, and note the time in UTC.
- Download the logs. Open the logs folder from the Broadcaster's Files page and download the Broadcaster_<date>_<time>.log files that cover that time. Also export the Event Log (see Viewing Events LogViewing Events Log).
- Send them to Support with the UTC time and the names of the affected streams.
- Set the level back to what it was, once Support has what it needs.
For what each setting does, and why Path should never be left empty, see LoggingLogging.
