AWS MediaConnect is a managed service designed for the transport of live video. It provides features such as encryption, entitlements for stream sharing, and integration with other AWS Media Services. MediaConnect supports protocols like RTP, RTMP, and Zixi, offering flexibility for different broadcast and streaming use cases.

AWS MediaConnect natively supports the Zixi protocol, allowing users to ingest and distribute live streams using Zixi-enabled encoders, decoders, and software solutions. Here’s how the integration typically works:

 The live video source is encoded using a device or software supporting the Zixi protocol. The Zixi stream is then sent to an 

 MediaConnect receives the Zixi stream and securely transports it within AWS infrastructure or to external destinations. The service applies encryption and entitlements to control access.

 The stream can be distributed to multiple endpoints, including broadcast facilities, cloud-based video processing services, or other Zixi-enabled receivers. MediaConnect’s scalability allows for easy addition of new destinations.

 Both Zixi ZEN Master and AWS MediaConnect provide monitoring tools to track stream health, latency, and error rates. Users can manage flows, entitlements, and destinations through the AWS Management Console or APIs.

AWS Instances can be terminated for a variety of reasons outside of ZEN Masters control, such as AWS retirement, manual termination via the AWS Console, or underlying system loss. A subset of ZEN Master managed configurations exists locally in the instance, such as those of Zixi PULL inputs, and UDP Outputs. ZEN Master will automatically recreate these configurations on the new instance that is launched by the AWS Auto-Recovery system, thus no longer requiring a manual restart of the object by the ZEN Master operator. This applies to all workflows that involve AWS, not just MediaConnect.
