Target and Output Status & Error Reference
A target or output reports a state and, when something is wrong, an error reason. ZEN Master also raises alarms of its own. The messages below are the ones that most often cause confusion. For sources, see Source Status & Error ReferenceSource Status & Error Reference.
Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
Broadcaster output error: None | The output was not connected, or was sending no data, and the Broadcaster gave no reason. "None" is the Broadcaster's empty error value. It is not a cause, and it does not mean the output is healthy. | Check the output's extended error and the Broadcaster Event Log for the same time. |
Encryption mismatch (earlier versions: "Data is encrypted") | The stream is Zixi-encrypted and has no decryption key on this Broadcaster. The output cannot turn it into a plain transport stream, so it sends nothing. | Set the decryption key on the input. |
Zero Bitrate | At least one bitrate sample since ZEN Master's last check read zero. With the rule's threshold at 0%, the first zero raises it, after any escalation delay set on the rule. | Check the source bitrate for the same time. |
Not recovered packets | Packets that were lost and not replaced before the latency window closed, plus packets dropped because the recovery buffer was full. If the sender sent nothing, this count does not rise. If the network dropped while the sender kept sending, the whole gap is counted when traffic returns. | Raise the latency or the input's Max Bitrate, or look at the network path. See Sizing latency, buffer and max bitrateSizing latency, buffer and max bitrate. |
Segment or playlist upload failed (HLS, S3) | The Broadcaster gave up on an upload. It retries a segment at least 3 times, 500 ms apart, for up to four segment lengths plus 4 seconds. It gives up at once on HTTP 400 or 403. The Event Log records the upload only when it gives up, but the output status can show an error on each failed attempt. | Check the Event Log for "upload failed". A 400 or 403 means the storage refused the path or the credentials. |
Activation failed, Timeout was reached (28) | The Broadcaster could not reach the Zixi license server within 5 seconds, over HTTPS and then over HTTP. This is a network or firewall problem, not a problem with the key. A bad key returns a message from the license server instead. | Allow outbound TCP 443 and 80 to licensing.zixi.com (version 19) or license2.zixi.com (versions 16 to 18), then activate again. |
