File Transfer & VOD
The File Transfer and VOD settings screen enables the download of files and the playback of VOD content and, in addition, specifies the speed limits (download/upload). The settings in this screen are related to the VOD and Files screens.

Field | Description |
|---|---|
File Transfer & VOD | |
Download | Enables download of files through the Files menu of the Zixi Broadcaster. |
HTTP Input | Enables HTTP acceleration mode. In this mode, instead of specifying a file location on the server’s hard disk, the Zixi Broadcaster receives an HTTP address from which it will retrieve the file and then transfer it to the Client. |
Upload | Enables the upload of files through the Files menu of the Zixi Broadcaster |
Automatically index VOD files | Indexes the VOD files in the various VOD folders. In some cases, the indexing of VOD files can affect performance. Using this control, you can decide when to index the VOD files in order to ensure optimal performance during peak times. |
Scan on startup | Indexes the files in the VOD folder that have not been indexed during startup of the Zixi Broadcaster. |
HLS indexing | Enables indexing of HLS streams. The indexing creates an M3U8 playlist file. |
MPEG-DASH indexing | Enables indexing of MPEG-DASH streams. The indexing creates a .mpd (MPEG-DASH Media Presentation Description) file. |
VOD | Enables the VOD feature. |
Encrypt downloads | Encrypts files that are downloaded. |
Max download speed [kbps] | Limits the amount of bandwidth used to download files |
Max upload speed [kbps] | Limits the amount of bandwidth used to upload files |
Initial bitrate [kbps] | Limits the amount of bandwidth used during initial download/upload (before cache) |
HTTP/Origin cache size [MB] | Limits the amount of cache memory that can be used for cache |
Advanced Mode
The fields discussed below are optional and available only in Advanced Mode.
To enter Advanced Mode add the URL parameter ?advanced=1 to the Zixi Broadcaster URL in your browser and press Enter/Return to reload the page:

Note the Advanced Mode settings are generally intended for advanced users and special cases. If you do not understand the settings, you should probably accept the default values.

- Zixi Indexing - Enables the scanning and indexing of mpeg-ts files in order to serve them to client. The indexing process scans the files for i-frames and prepares a list (or index file) of the offset in mpeg-ts file. The index file for each .ts or .mp4 is stored in the file-transfer folder. The index allows seeking during Zixi file and VOD delivery, so it is useful when the client is playing back (and not downloading) a file and wants to "seek" to a specific location.
- Bitrate cache - select this option to allow Broadcaster to remember the speed it last reached to each client IP and start the next download there, instead of ramping up from "Initial bitrate". This setting is not relevant for live streams or HLS.
- Proxy HTTP/S port - ports of the Zixi local proxy on the viewer's machine, used for Zixi-accelerated HLS. When a playlist is requested with udp/multicast, Broadcaster rewrites segment URLs to http://127.0.0.1:4500/... or https://localproxy.zixi.com:4501/... so the client fetches segments over Zixi instead of plain HTTP. Change them only if the client proxy listens on other ports; normal HLS ignores them.
- Aggressiveness [1-100] - A value determining how sharply the system reacts to network fluctuations. A higher value typically triggers faster, more drastic bitrate reductions at the first sign of congestion, while a lower value results in smoother, more gradual adjustments.
- MTU [bytes] - Configure the Maximum Transmission Unit (the largest data packet that a network-connected device will accept) for pulling the stream.
