Source History Packet Timing

2min

For Push and Pull Sources from a Broadcaster (v13 and above), this graph shows a candlestick graph of distribution of packet arrival times over time. It's a key indicator of network jitter and timing consistency in video transmission. Each orange vertical box plot represents the variation in packet timing over a specific time interval.

Dynamic use of FEC in the Zixi protocol can compensate for minor fluctuations in packet recovery times.

The candlestick graph shows the min and max in the narrow line and 25th percentile and 75th percentile in the thick line. This information can be helpful in choosing the latency setting for the stream, since there is no need to allow longer latency than the time that is actually being used for packet recovery.

Y-axis (Time in milliseconds): Indicates the packet timing spread — higher values may suggest irregularities or jitter.

Box plot elements:

  • Top whisker: Maximum packet delay observed
  • Top of box: 75th percentile
  • Bottom of box = Min = 25th percentile: In this case, many intervals show tight lower bounds.
