Adding a Source - AWS MediaCon...

Advantages and Limitations of ZEN Master Managed Flows

2min

Notes that Apply to Method 2

  • You can interchange AWS Media Sources and AWS Media Flows (Channels) in ZEN Master.
  • A MediaConnect or MediaLive type Source can only be assigned to an AWS Media type of Channel. It can’t be assigned to a standard Channel.
  • You only pay AWS for MediaConnect Flows or MediaLive Channels that are in Active state. When a MediaConnect Flow or MediaLive Channel is created in ZEN Master, it becomes Active once it has a Source assigned to it and the Flow (Channel) is Enabled in ZEN Master.
  • AWS Media Sources and Flows (Channels) are associated in a one to one relationship. If a Source is assigned to a new Flow, it is automatically removed from the previous Flow. Also, if a new Flow is assigned to a Source, then the previous Source is removed from that Flow. Any Flows that lose their Source will become Inactive in AWS Media.
  • AWS Media based encryption is not supported (contact your SE for a workaround).
  • Thumbnails aren’t shown for AWS Media Sources as this data is not available from AWS Media.
  • Content Quality Analytics, Jitter and Analytics History graphs aren’t available for MediaConnect or MediaLive Sources as this data is not available from AWS Media.
  • History graphs aren’t available for Targets that are assigned to AWS Media Flows as this data is not available from AWS Media.
  • When importing existing Flows, some MediaConnect specific features, such as Entitlements and VPC interfaces, are not currently supported.

Combining Method 1 Integration with Method 2 Integration

If you have created a new ZEN Master Managed MediaConnect Flow, you can then use that Flow as a Source or Target using Method 1. A practical example of this is creating a new Zixi Source from a ZEN Master Managed Flow that has already been created in ZEN Master. This will enable you to see thumbnails of the video, Content Quality Analytics and ePSNR graphs. This new Zixi Source, however, does need to be hosted on a Zixi Broadcaster.
