Failover rules demystified
1min
the manual can be a little confusing on what exactly is going on and what's meant by “sample” sample duration length in seconds of each video chunk being analyzed samples how many samples of this length of video are taken sequentially samples threshold how many samples from the group of samples that fail the test are required to trigger a failover i e 10s sample | 6 samples | with samples threshold of 3 6 x 10s samples are analyzed within that 60s, if 3 x 10s samples fail (30s of failure within a minute) then the failover source will switch to the backup this is round robin, so at any time across the video’s duration, if a total of 30s of failure is experienced within a 60s time window, failover will happen example set up while the above example is good for explaining the variables, an easy and clear way to set up a failover rule is 30s sample duration, 1 sample, 1 samples threshold this would mean if 30s of consistent failure happens ever, the source will failover caveat arguments can be made for both setups creative decisions like fade to blacks or static reader cards or intermittent errors like video stuttering and stop/starts might make smaller samples with a triggering threshold over time make more sense
